Computer assisted learning in the Level 1 - ESL classroom
Computer assisted learning in the Level 1 - ESL classroom, can be challenging for the students.
From my experience, students in intermediate classes with prior computer knowledge, benefited tremendously from this learning platform. I was wondering how to incorporate language learning through computer assisted learning at the beginner level. I have found, however, that beginner level students, with some computer knowledge are able to navigate with no assistance and complete computer based tasks.
I like to pair the students up with a learner who uses the computer regularly outside of the classroom. This works well, because in a classroom where there are more students than computers, sharing a computer is necessary. Students at this level tend to enjoy sharing tasks with a partner because it makes the experience less daunting.
We use the room that is equipped with computers, on a weekly basis. The students are able to decide which skill area they would like to work on. The computer based tasks work well with grammar points they have just been taught as well as with themes they have been introduced to.

Hi Julie, I have found this post very interesting because I have similar experience. I have been teaching LINC Literacy - Level 4 students at different times. Some students in intermediate classes don't have any computer knowledge. So I use peer support and pair work a lot. It helps. However, blogging is absolutely new for me. You are welcome to visit my blog and any suggestions are welcome too.
